It has long been a myth that people with diabetes can't eat sweets or chocolate.
Diabetes is caused by a combination of genetics and lifestyle – not from eating too much sugar. And, there is no reason people with diabetes need to eat special diabetic foods.
Being a diabetic does not mean that you have to go entirely without sweets. Occasional sweet treats can be allowed, as long as your blood sugar levels are maintained within your target range.
Eating a balanced and healthy diet is the best way to control the effects of diabetes. When done in conjunction with a good exercise program and a healthy lifestyle, the diabetic diet will effectively help you live many years free of any adverse complications.
You may want to add these desserts your diet – even if you are not diabetic! Just don’t allow sugar to be more that 10% of your total calories. There are some excellent low calorie sweeteners on the market, such as 'Splenda' which uses the unique sweetening ingredient, Sucralose. Also if you reduce the amount of sugar in most recipes, even as much as 20%, it will not affect the taste of the dessert!
