Diabetic Skin Care
If caught early, most skin conditions can be prevented or easily treated with proper diabetic skin care. Skin disorders are common to people with diabetes. High glucose levels tend to cause dry skin and the inability to fend off harmful bacteria. Both of these conditions increase the risk of infection. Such problems are sometimes the first sign that a person has diabetes. Following are several tips that will help you maintain healthy skin!

1. Prevent dry skin by moisturizing. Scratching dry, itchy skin can allow infection to set in.
2. Keep your home humid during dry months.
3. Keep skin clean and dry. Use talcum powder in armpits and groin.
4. Avoid very hot baths and showers. Don't use bubble baths. Use mild shampoo. Moisturizing soaps may help.
5. Don’t ignore cuts, even if they seem minor. Wash with soap and water. If your health care provider approves, you can use an antibiotic cream or ointment. Cover minor cuts with gauze.
